Yeah... I guess that kind of place isn't common between worlds. At least, that's what I'm starting to notice.
But I...
[ahhh, saying things like that, Josuke... he'll really start liking you, and that's a bit of a problem. He glances down, not that it's visible.]
I do have a group of friends that I'd consider closer to me than blood. That's who I think of when I think of "family" the way others describe it. We just don't use the word.
While I'm...not really from the same kind of place, I do feel the same way about the town I call "home".
[A faint touch of nostalgia in his voice.]
Do you find it hard being away from it?
[On the surface it might seem like a stupid question, but the truth is, some people deal better with separation than others. For example, for all that Josuke misses his home, his friends, and his family...the life he's led so far has prepared him for enduring distance and uncertainty to some degree.
It's not "hard" being away from what he knows. He'd rather not have to be, but it is...wholly endurable. Especially when there are good things he can do here. And other family to meet and protect.
In short, it's not an experience that he regrets or would wish not to have.]
I never got to travel much myself, but I guess...that's probably because I'm still in high school and my mom's a single mom. We just never had the time or the money.
[And after his grandfather died? There wasn't a whole lot of desire to leave, either. Josuke felt responsible for Morioh.]
To be honest, though...I worry a lot about that pause effect, too. And my town because of it.
[A beat.]
Hey, do you mean you're kinda like a guardian to the city you're from?
Hmm, yes, that would accomplish that. But you're young - you have time. That time is something to treasure, along with those connections. I don't even know who my mother was.
[...doesn't care either, but shh.]
As for the city... it's a little complicated, but my friends and I do protect it when we can.
Not many people can, but to be honest, I'm much stronger than I look.
Well, I imagine it'd be hard with traveling a lot, but it sounds like the place is important to you! In the same kind of way Morioh is to me.
[...also, maybe feeling more curious now about Chrollo than before. Or rather, feeling like he might identify a little with him at the very least. He went several years without knowing who his father was, after all.
But maybe he'll mention that some other time. They still don't know each other that well, and that's a personal topic indeed!]
Ah! Yeah...I mean, I remember your spar with Jolyne. I didn't expect you to have such an arsenal of cool moves! It was pretty awesome.
[Well, he knows that neither of them were terribly serious during that spar, but to hear him call it 'play'...]
Why? I mean...why are they frustrating? Unless you just mean because of what she's capable of doing with them, because yeah, that could get annoying if you were trying to go toe-to-toe with her, I imagine!
...there's a lot of people who know that stuff around here.
[And he still doesn't know any! Nor formally, anyway. Although he's been sparring regularly with different people which has at least broadened his perspective in terms of close range combat. Should come in handy one day.
Ah, but first...]
Man, she'd be a real nuisance if they were sticky, can you imagine? Just like that Hisoka guy!
[Which is...sort of said fondly? Or something. Josuke still thinks Hisoka's a weirdo, but he's been entertaining enough and not awful around him. As far as he knows.]
You're saying you're a lot faster than what we saw that day?
[It's not really a surprise. He's never thought of himself or his family to necessarily be among the strongest people the Porter has pulled in. There's always someone a tier above...
To him, it's just interesting.]
As for Hisoka, yeah. Or well...I guess I don't know him very well, but we're friends. But that thing he does...that gum thing. [The exact name eludes him at the moment! Don't judge!] I've been on the receiving end.
He stuck a marshmallow to my forehead!
[He...almost sounds outraged for a second before laughing.]
And when we sparred...heh. That was a real pain in the ass. But it was a great challenge!
[...faster, stronger, more versatile... but whatever.]
Something like that!
Anyway... I think you mean bungee gum. Wow. It really is a small world, I guess. I've known him for years, although I guess we were never that close, exactly.
It can't be seen, but the pause speaks for itself before...
Laughing!]
You can't say something like that! It just makes me more curious! Or is that your game, man? Get me all curious so I look and you can act when I'm distracted by some horror of horrors? Oh well, looks like you're outta luck now, I'm onto you!

I traveled a lot anyway, so it's not as though I wasn't used to being away.
But it's strange not being able to go home. And I worry...
[He laughs a little, rubs the back of his neck.]
I guess I shouldn't, actually - there's that time pausing issue after all. Even so, I do worry about what my city will become without us.
[...]
Maybe because there's no way to know about the pausing thing for sure.

Haha, yeah... that was fun. But I was only playing around.
[Not quite full disclosure, BUT.]
Actually, though, Jolyne's powers are kind of frustrating to deal with!

[gosh he cant get really serious, even without revealing his full buffet of powers that could get environmentally damaging.]
Anyway, yeah, binding powers are kind of difficult to deal with; hers isn't as bad as some others I've dealt with - at least it's not sticky.

I was writing prophecies for children in the park.
