Nobu's right, it's a hell of a lot more complicated. Enough for the boss to call me up one night saying he wanted to get drunk because he figured out he was in love with the guy.
[if you hear any pained noises on his end of the line they are from having to admit this actually happened.]
Talk about a fucking mess... you should've heard him after he got a couple of drinks in. What a lightweight.
[The fact that it is affecting the Troupe even this much is a testament to that, though of course things could be worse. Nothing has backfired spectacularly quite yet. But would it? Well, Nobu doesn't have any doubts. In fact, so certain is he that he can almost hear Machi chiming in with her two cents of agreement followed by, Just a hunch.]
I think the question we oughtta be asking ourselves is...what do we do about it? Or, more accurately, do we do anything at all?
[Because if he's not causing problems, it'll be hard for them to convince Chrollo that any action on their part against Hisoka is justified. Nobu knows this too well.
Which isn't him saying at all that they should do nothing...because he is not at all pleased with this turn of events.]
[If only they had Machi here as well, they might be better equipped to deal with this.]
Don't look at me. I'm not here to get involved with that stuff any more than I have to. If it comes down to needing to teach that clown a lesson, then I'll have something to do.
Until then...
[...he's on call for emergency midnight drunkenness. BUT THAT'S ALL.]
[Uvo sighs, and then seems to consider for a moment before adding-]
You know how sentimental the boss gets. It's not like you can just talk him out of it.
No, unfortunately you can't. [A sigh.] Still, if he's been finding powers for the boss, then that means he's still useful. If that changes, or if Hisoka finds another way to ruin things, then we'll deal with it in our own way. Until then, we should keep a close eye on them both and see how things go. [But then again...] Which is something I can do if neither of you want to.
True. Being delicate about it won't do much to help the situation.
Hisoka knew the Chain-User the entire time we were in Yorknew. [Which means he knew about him and did nothing even when Uvo was killed. But why would he? He was never a Spider. There was no reason for him to care.] When the Boss told our fortunes, Hisoka's said that he made some kind of deal with the Chain-User. We were lead to believe that it was against his will, and that the condition was he would die if he left the base. That was a lie.
When I brought the two boys to trade in exchange for Boss, he showed up and called the Chain-User. He demanded to come with us, or else he would kill Gon and Killua. It's likely that he let him come on because he feared for their lives, but I doubt that their connection was so shallow.
There was far more going on than what we were lead to believe, and either Chrollo doesn't know about it, or he's aware and he's ignoring it in favour of indulging his new feelings for Hisoka.
Either way, I'd like to get close enough to confirm everything and see exactly how much he hid from us. We can decide what to do next once I get the information I need.
[for a long moment there's only very conspicuous silence on his end, until-]
WHAT?
That slimy fucking bastard, is that what he was up to the whole time?! To think I was giving that clown a break- why the hell are you telling me this now? Chrollo's gotta know about it!
[EVEN THOUGH SHE JUST SAID SHE'D RATHER CONFIRM FIRST. selective hearing in action.]
[Don't worry, Uvo, your reaction was undoubtedly expected by both Nobu and Paku! Might wanna worry more about the phone line, though! And pray you didn't bust it. Or the phone itself. That'd be a pain in the ass.]
I know how you feel. We both do.
[A nice and calm reaction, at least on the surface. He's as upset as Uvo is beneath, however. Has been since he found out what a scheming rat Hisoka was...
And to think he ever had anything nice to say about the clown's abilities! Tch.]
Paku's right, though. Much as I hate to say it, Chrollo's stupidly fond of the clown. It'll be better for us all if we don't handle this recklessly. Better for the boss, too.
[Reluctantly he adds...]
Not sure what it's worth, but I don't exactly doubt Hisoka's feelings or think we should discount them. He was helping in his own way to find an exorcist back home. To break the Chain User's hold on the boss's Nen. Which doesn't mean I think we should trust him, but...maybe there's a way we can use that to our advantage.
We need to be careful. And patient. If we rush, things will only get worse. I'll keep an eye on him, but you both should, too. Watch and see what we can use to our advantage until I read him. If he gets out of hand, I'm starting to get some idea for what I can do without getting bloody. Because let's be honest, as wonderful as hurting him would be, he'd only enjoy that.
[very much saying so through bared teeth, but of course beneath that bristling he knows they're right about this. especially that last part. gross.]
...Paku. Whatever it is you have in mind, you better make sure it's worth holding off. I owe him my fist through his skull no matter how much he enjoys it. It's bad enough he picked up a few new tricks since coming here...
I'll make him forget. Not just his connection to us or the Boss, but everything leading up to the point when I erase everything.
When I'm done, he won't even remember his name. [Hard to be a problem to them and Chrollo if he can't even recall the slightest detail about his life or who he is.] But he'd probably need to be held down, so I guess you two could still get physical if you'd like.
Of course, this is if he stops being useful and starts to get out of hand. I'd rather get the information I need and show Boss exactly what he was up to with the Chain-User. Then we can all decide what to do with him.
[he still has plenty to yell about, he feels, but now? he's laughing.]
I thought pummeling him into a paste would be fine, but I have to admit, I like your way even better. I'd hate to ever end up on your bad side, Paku.
It would be nice to just take care of things that easily, but you're right about bringing it to the boss first. [a heavy sigh--] It's all such a pain in the ass, though.
I doubt I'll have much trouble. I only need to touch him long enough to ask what I need of him. And while he knows about my abilities, it isn't as if he's the sort of person who's averse to touch.
Yeah, don't remind me... Just remember, you're better off just "running into him" if you can. If he thinks you're coming after him on purpose, he'll give you a hell of a chase.
[which is actually kind of fun... somehow he doesn't think Paku would appreciate it as much, though.]
You handle that however you need to. [and of course it goes without saying that he agrees with Nobu - he's there to help, if needed. no point in overstating it.]
